Tidelands release day

20th August 2019

Today is the day my new novel, Tidelands, goes on sale. This book returns me to historical fiction based in a real time and place with imagined people, far from the royal courts, and I’m excited to introduce you to my heroine Alinor – now a dear friend to me, and one you will soon meet.

The book begins on Midsummer’s Eve, 1648. Alinor is a young woman on the very borders of the land, living a marginal life in every way. Without a husband she has no identity as a wife, as a midwife she works on the boundaries of science and magic, and as a seer she watches the known and unknown worlds. Her country is in the midst of the English Civil War. Her brother is for Cromwell, but she is in love with a Royalist spy. She’s a woman walking an uncertain path through shifting terrain when it’s dangerous for a woman to be seen as different.

To celebrate the release of Tidelands, I want to share the first chapter of the book with you – read it here.
