Could a playing card in The Met depict a contemporary Elizabeth Woodville? I found this piece giving possible identifications for the kings and queens of the Cloisters Deck very interesting. Tradition has it that the Queen of Hearts in our standard modern deck is meant to be Elizabeth of York, Elizabeth Woodville's daughter. Cards were a popular court pastime – I wonder if either queen ever had a deck with her own image.
