Bee-keeping & Pottery

Philippa’s charity, Gardens for the Gambia, already very successful in digging wells to bring water to some of The Gambia’s poorest communities, has expanded into bee-keeping and pottery workshops.

In a trial project, the charity has build five hives at Kerr Ngonyan Woman’s Vegetable Garden.  For just £500, the hives are supporting the entire community by offering an opportunity to diversify when crops fail and surplus can be used to create a revenue.

The charity’s pottery workshop will invite 15 women to Njawara Agricultural College in the North Bank region, where they will learn the skills they need to work with pottery to make fuel-efficient and sanitary stoves.
