I don't know that much about him either but my Dad was Scottish and when we were younger he took me and my sister up to Scotland for a holiday and we actually visited Robert Burns cottage, as a kid I wasn't that interested but now I would be all over it!
From his pictures he was an extremely handsome man. I believe he died penniliess (and probably worn out with all the female attention).
It might be interesting to research some stuff about him, his poems are great, I had a book where the poem was printed on one page in the way he would have written it and on the facing page was an "English translation", my favourite poem is "To A Mouse". When he was farming he disturbed a mouse nest and he wrote about the wee mouse that looked at him, terrified at being discovered.
Dad also took us to Rob Roys grave but, as usual me and my sister just wanted to sit in the car and listen to our Wham cassette. He virtually had to bribe us to get out of the car to have a picture taken by the grave, what philistines we were back then! |

I keep getting told that I'm related to President McKinley. Also some Lovelace person, but I'm still trying to figure out who. _________________ "Life would be so wonderful if we only knew what to do with it." Greta Garbo

Yes. on my mother's side, my ancestor is Queen Maria Leszczynska. She was a Polish princess who grew up to be the wife of King Louis XV, and was the grandmother of Marie antoinette's husband, louis XVI _________________

There are some really interesting ancestors here!
My great x3 grandmother had the surname Hartshorn, and according to the Hartshorn family website, the Hartshorns had links with Robin Hood and his Merry Men, so I like to tell myself I might be descended from Robin Hood, which would be pretty amazing!
On a more recent note, my dad's second cousin (or something like that) is the 60s pop star Barry Ryan who had a huge hit with the song Eloise! |

I know that song! My Dad used to go around the house in the early morning singing it at the top of his voice! My sisters name is Emma Louise and she used to get it the worst!
I know the group "The Damned" covered it in the mid 80's? so we had it for a few weeks as Dad then got backing music for his daily warble!
Did your Dad's cousin write "Eloise"? I hope so as the re-make was quite a hit and he'd have got royalties. |
